Piece from the Pathways & Precipices ~ An Artist’s Return to Awe and Wonder Series inspired by experiences and transformations from Bandelier National Monument Artist Residency for month of November 2022.

This trip had its share of wrestling… Am I doing enough, seeing enough, making enough, learning enough? Can I really do that trail by myself? Will I ever be able to drive out of the canyon without crossing the double yellow line to stay far from that edge? This piece seeks to capture the victorious results of facing the unknown and every challenge head on and working through several transformations to experience a new level of confidence and freedom.

Nothing represents transformation to me more than the metamorphosis of a seed germinating, fighting its way to the light and flourishing despite opposing elements such as competing “weeds” and poor soil. The good seeds of courage, confidence, and faith are shown to grow and flourish overcoming the bad seeds and weeds of doubt, fear, insecurity, and limiting assumptions. The stylization and collage materials used are purposely playful to capture the victorious joy.
