Shadow Bear

I am thrilled when we have a black bear sighting on our property.  This painting was inspired by photograph I took of one walking up our wooded driveway!  My intention for this piece was capturing the mystery of this black bear emerging from the woods with the backlighting sparkling through the trees onto the bear and foliage.  Working on the Yupo paper (bright white, plastic impermeable surface) enabled me to capture the brightest lights and darkest darks.  Using transparent and translucent pigments for the lighter areas reflects the brightness of the paper shining through.
