Piece from the Pathways & Precipices ~ An Artist’s Return to Awe and Wonder Series inspired by experiences and transformations from Bandelier National Monument Artist Residency for month of November 2022.

It was a wonderful field trip to visit the Valles Caldera at a much higher elevation than Frijoles Canyon. Elk are prolific in the Caldera but other than scat, I did not have the opportunity to see any in person. I based the elk in this piece on a reference photograph by StockSnap via Pixabay, and juxtaposed it on a view of rock formations in the mixed conifer forest environment of the Caldera I photographed just outside of the park, towards Jemez.
