Piece from the Pathways & Precipices ~ An Artist’s Return to Awe and Wonder Series inspired by experiences and transformations from Bandelier National Monument Artist Residency for month of November 2022.

Exploring the Pajarito Plateau area presented constant exposure to edges and precipices. The numerous canyons, switchback trails and winding roads required changes in elevation throughout the area. This piece is my ode to the edges and conquering my fears. Facing the real risk of falling had to be confronted and overcome if I was to see and experience any breadth of what the area and the park has to offer. The birds-eye view over Frijoles Canyon represents just how steep and deep those drops were.

The collaged topography levels imply the steep elevation changes and the reflective mylar was used to represent Frijoles Creek at the bottom of the canyon. A clear acrylic overlay with footprints is suspended over the topography to represent my victory facing my fears of the edges.
