I am thrilled by all wildlife sightings and this heron is no exception. This painting was inspired by photograph I took of a great blue heron at Smith Mountain Lake across standing on the edge of the neighboring dock!  My intention for this piece was capturing the rich moody tones of a glowing evening light setting off the serene heron.  Working on the Yupo paper (bright white, plastic impermeable surface) enabled me to capture the brightest lights and darkest darks.  Using transparent and translucent pigments for the lighter areas reflects the brightness of the paper shining through.
