Piece from the Pathways & Precipices ~ An Artist’s Return to Awe and Wonder Series inspired by experiences and transformations from Bandelier National Monument Artist Residency for month of November 2022.

By myself but not alone… Living solo for a month in Frijoles Canyon with no neighbors close by, I was on my own. The nearest towns of White Rock and Los Alamos were 20-30 minutes away. Other than the public painting events and occasional strategically planned “field trips” with the Residency Coordinator and my Santa Fe Base Camp Buddy, I was by myself. Surprisingly, this month of solitude was not lonely. I leaned heavily into my faith relationship with God and had constant conversations ranging from Wow God gratitude to Holy Spirit pep talks.

This piece expresses this concept of WITH by having the thankful and joyful smaller figure embedded within the divine larger figure to express how I did every aspect of this adventure WITH God. He goes before me and comes behind me, He is at my side, and inside of me always. The use of simple shapes and lines expresses how simple child-like faith can be so powerful.
